How We Track This

Freeze the comparison set as OpenAI, Anthropic and Google DeepMind; report every member rather than selecting one after results. Measure representative US-adult approval of each named company using at least 1,000 weighted respondents in July 2027. The proxy threshold is net approval at or below −35 percentage points for a member of this set, corroborated by an independent comparable survey within 60 days. Report approval, disapproval, unsure, wording and uncertainty separately.

These operational thresholds specify this tracker’s test. Where the scenario uses qualitative language, they are interpretations rather than numbers quoted from the original.

Current Evidence

YouGov’s AI-brand comparison measures product impressions among aware consumers. That denominator and concept differ from representative adult approval of the named companies. It does not resolve the minus-35-point threshold.

Counterevidence & Limitations

OpenBrain is fictional. “Any of three leading labs” is an explicitly defined broader tracker proxy; it is not identical to the scenario’s specific actor. Keep the exact 25/60/15 composition as a separate comparison. General disapproval of AI or technology companies does not resolve this question.

Missing comparable survey evidence leaves the result unresolved.

What Would Change Our Assessment

All named labs remain above −35 net approval in representative surveys, or the apparent result comes from an unrepresentative sample or generic AI question.

Evidence satisfying the full test would change the assessment; earlier observations inform the trajectory but do not resolve this test’s specified observation window. Partial proxies are recorded with their scope.
